Cautionary (Poem)
If I were to dive
in after you towards that calling sea,
Knowing neither of us swim well
and you tend to wander off
and I tend to panic,
How long would it take before they found us,
Clinging to each other and ourselves and our lives,
Listening for the pounding in our chests,
Tired of the pain but dreading the snuffing of light,
Afraid of what the true dark resembled, and whether we'd remember how to say our names?
